Exploring the British Museum

this is so lovely!!

Pair of bowls with caledon glaze, created specifically to 'nestle' together, 2010 by Kawase Shinobu.

Flower Basket, woven in contrasting bamboo

Pattern-books for women. Samuri women followed the fashions of the times, commissioning their robes to be made according to the latest pattern books.

Reminds me of the current 'Charmed Life' Exhibition at the Wellcome Collection. Copper Bells - Isla De Sacrificios, 'ensouled' by the face that appears on the front. Rattles, shell trumpets, drums and bells were all invested with living qualities in this manner. The bells hung from costumes would sound in keeping with the movement and rythm of the choreographed dances.

Recycled metal foil bottle-neck wrappers, copper wise.

Masks representing crocoldiles, sharks and swordfish. Nigeria 19th century.
